🪴 Allow Me to Keep it Real
Every May, the panic starts:
“Should I do school over the summer?”
“Are we falling behind?”
“Should I plan lessons? Buy a curriculum? Print 47 worksheets?”
Let me stop you right there.
You don’t need a rigid plan. You don’t need Pinterest-perfect themed weeks.
You need something simple, joyful, and actually doable.
Here’s the only summer homeschool plan I actually stick to—and my kids love it (even my big kid). Keep reading!

😫 The Problem: Summer Guilt + Overwhelm
If you’ve ever:
- Felt guilty for “taking a break” in summer
- Tried to plan an entire curriculum for June-August… then abandoned it by July
- Wondered if your kid is “falling behind” without structure
- Battled over worksheets while dreaming of canceling summer homeschool altogether
You are not alone.
The truth is—most of us don’t need more lessons.
We need more connection, curiosity, and joy.
🌞 The Shift: Try This Instead
Here’s what we’ve started doing every summer (and it’s been magic):
👉 One book
👉 One hands-on project
👉 One big question to spark conversation
Each week, that’s it. That’s the whole plan.
It keeps learning alive without turning your home into summer school.

🎉 Why It Works
- It’s low-pressure for you
- It’s high-engagement for them
- It’s easy to adjust for different ages and energy levels
- It builds real-life skills, critical thinking, and connection
- And—it doesn’t require any fancy supplies or prep
📦 What It Looks Like
- Week Example:
- Book: The Curious Garden by Peter Brown
- Project: Make a mini garden in a recycled container
- Question: What can one small person do to make a big difference?
Boom. Done.

💛 A Little Encouragement to End With
You don’t need a perfect summer homeschool schedule.
You don’t need to keep up with the public school pace.
You definitely don’t need to stress over “doing enough.”
You need moments that matter.
And those moments are waiting inside your kitchen, your backyard, and your library bag. Oh, and I’d highly recommend having your kids journal about what they’re learning. There will be so many memories you’ll want to be able to look back on and remember, so make sure you take lots of pics, too!
You’ve got this.
